A new tradition is here for Littles! Every month, I am highlighting a few family-friendly Houston happenings you may want to mark on your calendar — and to know right at the start of the month that you have something fun coming up! Sometimes these will be events that you need tickets to or RSVP for – in which case, advance is always better. Here are 5 fun things I am excited about for January!

Sunday, January 8 – KidCreate Studio + Houston Toy Museum crossover! The HTM is hosting an art workshop with KidCreate – and the admission fee of $35 includes museum admission for a child and accompanying adult plus the art workshop. The workshop for ages 3-6 is at 11am, and for ages 7-12 is at 12:15pm. More details and tickets are found at KidCreate and Houston Toy Museum.
Saturday, January 21 10am-2pm – Arbor Day at Houston Arboretum. A free event for all ages. Join the Houston Arboretum for their annual Arbor Day Celebration to celebrate Houston’s amazing trees and everything they do for us! Test your skills at lumberjack games, go on a tree hike, watch tree climbing demonstrations, enjoy fun booths and activities, and bring a tree home from the tree sale. This event will be held rain or shine
Sunday, January 22 1-5pm – Children’s Texas Art Festival at Bayou Bend. Visit Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s beautiful Bayou Bend for an afternoon of free, family-friendly fun. The Children’s Texas Art Festival celebrates art created by and for children that helps forge a connection to Texas and American heritage.
Saturday, January 28 11am-4pm – Lunar Near Year 2023 at Asia Society Texas. Join Asia Society Texas Center in welcoming the Year of the Rabbit with performances, art and craft activities, and food inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. Registration is free and required for all participants. Members can go an hour early (10am!).
Saturday, January 28 11am and 3pm – Gazillion Bubble Show at Jones Hall. I have heard great things about this show! A show for all ages, this is not your typical bubble show and includes interactive elements, too. The age recommendation is 1.5 years to 105 years. Ticket details can be found here!
