Hermann Park Commons is open and it does not disappoint – I have to say, it is Houston’s best new playground!

Hermann Park Commons is a huge area, including play grounds (called play gardens!), a carousel, lots of green space, picnicking areas, and more.
- We loved the playgrounds, and there are SO many themes and different areas including the rocket ship, space capsule, snake play structure, and more.
- If you have a smaller kid, be aware that the rocket ship requires some climbing. Smaller children may be better off using the ground level entrance to the shortest slide versus climbing high (if they get stuck or scared, you’ll have to go in the rocket after them!). It’s also a bit difficult to keep track of your kid while in the rocket, so be cognizant of that!
- Don’t miss the gorilla play structure next to the swings (across from the rocket area). The gorilla and dragonfly areas are particularly toddler friendly.
- We loved all the natural touches throughout the area – rocks for climbing, nice landscaping, and more. It’s going to be GORGEOUS as it matures
- Feel free to bring a picnic – so many nice seating areas
- There are big water play areas as well, so bring a swimsuit and a swim diaper (required for those in diapers)
- Carousel opens everyday at 10am, although sadly was down the day we visited. It is $5 a ride per person
- There are multiple bathrooms, including very large family restrooms (you can wheel a whole stroller in) with changing tables
- Hermann Park has security monitoring the entrances to the playground areas
- The play gardens are open 9am-9pm daily. The Commons is open during normal park hours, 6am-11pm
We are loving the new Commons and play gardens! It’s SO huge that I think we only scratched the surface and will keep discovering new and special touches in Houston’s best new playground!
