Galveston Island has the best hidden treasures! Did you know you can tour a WWII era submarine & a WWII destroyer escort ship, right in Galveston at the Galveston Naval Museum?

If you or your littles are interested in history, boats, technology, or just things that go, the Galveston Naval Museum is a cool day out. You can start at either the submarine or the destroyer escort during your visit. We started with the submarine, the USS Cavalla.
The Cavalla was used during WWII as a real submarine in action. It is wild to see how tiny the inside is for the sailors who lived on board! The spaces are tight, and you must be nimble to climb in and out of the different spaces. Definitely no strollers down here!

If you prefer a bit more fresh air, the destroyer escort, the USS Stewart will provide that! You can walk the different decks and check out what was in each room – the ship is labeled well so you can read which room was for what purpose.

The Museum is located in Seawolf Park, which does charge for parking. Seawolf also has lots of picnic space, views over the water, and a playground too if you want to spend extra time there!
