The Lunar New Year is coming up and January is full of fun celebrations welcoming the Year of the Rabbit! Who doesn’t want to celebrate during one of the darkest and coldest months? Read on for some of the fun, family-friendly Lunar New Year celebrations here in town – starting this weekend!

Saturday, January 7 – Japan Junction: Oshogatsu at Levy Park 10am-2pm. Bring the whole family and enjoy free activities for kids of all ages with with Japan America Society of Houston.
Saturday, January 14 – Lunar New Year Celebration 10am-2pm at The Woodlands Children’s Museum. Including Lion Dance performances at 10:30am and 11:30am and a special story time at 12:30. Included with admission!
Saturday, January 14 11am-1pm at HPL Central Library – Houston Public Library is partnering with the Vietnamese Civic Center & OCA Greater Houston for a free celebration – lion dance, performances, activities, and more!
Tuesday, January 17 – Sunday, January 22 – Year of the Rabbit Wonderweek at Children’s Museum Houston. Join CMH all week for lots of crafts and activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year!
Tuesday, January 17 – Saturday, January 21 – Year of the Rabbit WonderWeek at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center. A week long celebration of Lunar New Year with crafts and activities! (NB: They are a sister organization of Children’s Museum Houston so their programming is often similar. So great to have two locations offering these fun events!!)
Sunday, January 22 5-8pm Lunar New Year celebration at Discovery Green – Discovery Green is hosting a free Lunar New Year celebration. Dance performances, food vendors and activities for the whole family!
Saturday, January 28 – Lunar New Year Festival at Asia Society Texas 11am-4pm. Welcome the Year of the Rabbit with performances, art and craft activities, and food inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. The event is free, although RSVPs are requested for planning purposes. Ticketed performances also available.
Saturday, January 28, 2023 3-4pm; Sunday, January 29; Saturday, February 4; and Sunday, February 5, 2023 12–5 pm – Join Asia Society Texas’ Lunar New Year free festivities at The Galleria! Arts and crafts, games, and festive performances for the whole family, Level One between Nordstrom and Macy’s.
