Have you been to Houston’s winter lantern festival? It is called Magical Winter Lights and is SO unique!

We were thrilled Magical Winter Lights hosted us to check out their cool festival in Baytown! It is like nothing I have seen – the lit-up lanterns are huge! To enter, you pass through an enormous lantern shaped like a castle. The lights are incredibly bright and vibrant, with over 6 million lights and 100 lanterns. Our favorites were the Christmas town and the winter wonderland sections. They also have Texas-themed lanterns and a giant replica of Rice University!
Here’s what you need to know if you are heading to Magical Winter Lights:
- Open through January 7, 2023 (including Christmas Eve & Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day).
- Located at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown: 2525 FM 565, Baytown, TX 77523. If you are coming across Houston, be aware of traffic conditions affecting your arrival time!
- Right now, the VIP parking lot, which is paved, is the only parking lot open. It costs $20. When the ground dries enough for the grass parking to be re-opened, it costs $10.
- We arrived around 5:20pm on a week night and had our pick of the parking! Very uncrowded on a weekday.
- The ground is paved for most of the festival and very stroller friendly.
- Buy your tickets online at the Magical Winter Lights website, or at your local Walgreens for a discount! Adults $25, Kids & Seniors $17. Kids under 3 are free.
- Get 15% off admission tickets for Dec 8th – 9th! Use promo code MWL15 (all caps) at checkout on the @magicalwinterlights website.
- In addition to the lantern festival, there are carnival rides and treats, a train ride, and even a circus! These are an additional fee. We rode the train, which was $4 per person.
